Outdoor learning is about fully integrating all school
subjects, where out and indoor activities are closely
related, so that pupils learn about nature in
nature and society in society, and about the
natural environment in the actual environment.
Our
Socrates Comenius
project is a result of primary schools’ desire to find
alternative methods, where pupils use their bodies and
minds in an active outdoor environment. The project
challenges modern lifestyle problems, where passivity
and unhealthy diets influence children’s physical and
mental health.

With the use of Outdoor Learning both pupils and
teachers, regularly go on excursions in their immediate
environment, in periods as often as once a week, and
spend all the school day there. The youngest pupils use
an outdoor base model; the older pupils experience their
natural environment by changing outdoor locations from
week to week.
Both academic subjects, practical and craft activities
play a central role, as well as experimental and
spontaneous play. A great deal of physical exercise and
fresh air is an important part of the outdoor
experience.
The Comenius partner
schools will base their work on this model, develop
their local solutions and finally exchange outdoor
learning ideas and practical experience with the other
schools
